Three-Hour, Live Broadcast of First C919 Narrowbody Jet Delivery to China Eastern Airlines Sent from Multiple Sites with TVU Networks’5G Technology

To cover the first delivery of a C919  Chinese-made narrowbody jet to China Eastern Airlines, CCTV reporters deployed multiple TVU One 5G mobile transmitters to capture interviews and reports from inside the cabin, outside the plane and around the airport. The units were used to send the on-site signal from Shanghai Pudong International Airport to a  TVU Transceiver in CCTV’s studio in Beijing. The three-hour live broadcast   was sent over the air and to online platforms simultaneously.

The C919 took off from Shanghai Pudong International Airport to Shanghai Hongqiao International Airport where it joined the fleet of China Eastern Airlines. During the broadcast from the Pudong Airport, six 5G/4G networks and one private mesh network were used. TVU One units provided reliable transmission throughout the broadcast thanks to their patented IS+ video/audio algorithm that simultaneously aggregates up to 12 data connections with virtually zero latency.

With HEVC-based, VBR (Variable Bit Rate) dynamic bit rate encoding and FEC (Forward Error Correction) transmission, the TVU One ensured high-quality and reliable signal return from each camera position at the airport. Thanks to the VoIP and tally indication functions on the equipment, the CCTV director at the Beijing studio easily communicated with reporters and camera operators on site in Shanghai.
