Background

Iraqi Media Network (Al Iraqiya) is a satellite and terrestrial public broadcaster and television network in Iraq. It is an Arabic language network that serves upwards of 85% of Iraq’s population, and is viewed by a significant percentage. Iraqi Media Network (IMN) has been a TVU Networks partner and has been using TVU packs for many years.

Challenge

In Iraq, the mobile network does not have the bandwidth to support many applications. When IMN learned about the new expansive 4G- LTE network connectivity, they started to explore and test various products that would be effective despite the connectivity challenges. They chose the TVU Anywhere mobile app for remote live video capture and transmission, as it was a very flexible product, especially with its integration with TVU Command Center which is designed for centralized monitoring and control of live video feeds.

Solution

At the beginning of April 2020, when COVID19 struck the country, IMN increased the use of TVU Anywhere and that led to improved media content from its network of reporters. IMN currently has TVU Anywhere being used by more than 80 local and global reporters. It also has two TVU Receivers for decoding the video transmissions which are all controlled by TVU Command Center.

“TVU Networks technical support team has been highly interactive 24×7,” says Naseer Ali Radeif, Information Technology and Broadcasting Manager at IMN. “From a financial side, we understand a big difference between using applications that provide integrated broadcast services like TVU Anywhere which help us decrease expenses and yet give a suitable upgraded solution than satellite services that we as engineers have.”
